About the Blog
Daydreams & Shoestrings began in January 2011 as a way to share my first half marathon experience, fitness tips, and random musings with my friends and family. I try to live a healthy, balanced life, but also enjoy some southern indulgences, such as Mardi Gras, Gumbo, and Mint Juleps. Along with a focus on living an active and healthy life, my blog follows my daily adventures with my husband Nick, and our insanely spoiled cat, Mario.
About the Blogger
My name is Jen and I’m a 20-something year old and working in the oil & gas industry. I grew up in Wild, Wonderful West Virginia and attended college in Ohio. I also had the wonderful opportunity to intern in Washington, D.C. About a year and a half after school, I got engaged and moved to California. After 4 years in sunny, southern California, the hubs and I got transferred to the great south - Louisiana.
A lil’ about me personally – I am certainly at a place I never thought I would be at this age. I am passionate and outgoing and care deeply for those I am close to. I worry WAY too much…about everything… But what I do know – what you see is what you get! I am real, down-to-earth, and always trying to make the best of a situation. My friends and family are my life-savers!
I read like a champ and sometimes cry too easily…but I love to have fun, experience new things, and meet interesting people who make the world better, thus allowing me to learn something about life.
Fitness
My current fitness regimen typically includes five or six days of workouts a week. I focus mainly on cardio, but am striving to intertwine strength training into my routine. I also fully believe in rest days!
My first real love of running began in high school after I joined the Cross Country team. Who knew training for 3.1 races every weekend in the fall would be so much fun?! (My senior year of XC, we won STATE!) Every spring however, like a magical pumpkin, I turned myself into a sprinter. I lived for the 200, 400, and 800 meters. When I got to college however, an IT Band injury left me a bit unmotivated, and my running became pretty sporadic. FULL STORY POST. Thus began my love/hate relationship with running.
After moving to the south, and realizing that I was no longer involved in time-demanding activities or clubs, I felt like I needed a new goal in life. I completed my first half marathon in October 2011, race recap HERE, after following my own training plan (developed from the best bits and pieces of well-known plans!) I ran the 2012 Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans Half Marathon in March 2012 by following Hal Higdon’s training plan and had just as much fun as my first half.
